STARTRIAL™
The advanced and unique system for study data communication and application
STARTRIAL™ is an online application that allows you to review, search and compare clinical trials which focus on the management of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). An updated version of STARTRIAL™ was launched in October 2008. It has three main functions:
- Trials – Provides targeted access to standardized, structured study data
- Search – Allows you to search for trials by therapy area or patient characteristics
- Compare – Gives you a side-by-side comparison of key data from two or more trials
Technical Requirements
Trials
Click the "Trials" button at the top left of the screen to view this section. You will see an algorithm of clinical trials displayed according to type of Adjunct pharmacological therapy of ACS. This algorithm is divided into three navigation panels:
- Gp IIb/IIIa inhibitors / PCI / Lysis (further divided into STEMI and NSTEMI)
- ADP receptor antagonists / Thrombin blockers / Heparins
- Metaanalyses / Other therapies
Click on the group or subgroup you are interested in to view this part of the algorithm.
Each trial is color coded according to the ACS treatment assessed within that trial. Once you have found a trial you would like to view, click on the trial name to access its data. The list on the left of the screen allows you to view different standardized sections of data, structured from title to conclusion. Only data from original full paper publications are presented – click on the section you wish to view. Within the results section of the data, there is a substructure that allows you to view a variety of endpoint results. Choose the results you wish to view.
Search
Click the "Search" button at the top left of the screen to view this section. You will see a list of search criteria on the left of the screen, with search results displayed on the right. Search criteria are divided into two main groups:
- Agents (including Gp IIb/IIIa antagonists, thienopyridines, thrombin inhibitors, heparins, tissue plasminogen activators and others)
- Characteristics/Procedures/Endpoints (including patient demographics, clinical status, interventional procedures and trial endpoints)
Check the criteria you wish to include in your search – you can select as many as you like. Results of your search will be displayed automatically on the right of the screen – you can view these results by study or by chosen criteria. Once you have found a trial you would like to view, click on the trial name to access its data. Click the reset button on the left of the screen if you wish to start again.
Compare
Click the "Compare" button at the top left of the screen to view this section. You will see a list of every trial name in alphabetical order. To directly compare two or more trials, first check the trials you wish to compare, then click on the "compare SELECTED directly" button at the bottom left of the screen. Alternatively, click on the "compare ALL directly" button to compare all trials. You will be able to compare two data sets side by side, using tabs at the top of the screen to select the trials and data sections you wish to compare.
You can also compare trials directly from the "Trials" or "Search" sections. Once you have chosen to view data within the "Trials" section, use the drop-down menus at the top right of the screen to select groups of trials for comparison. Within the "Search" section, use the buttons at the bottom right of the screen to compare either selected trials or all trials within your search criteria.
